Birds Of Paradise Dress - Upcycled & Sri Lankan Artisanal
Our spring capsule collection is set in the soul of Sri Lanka and that is village life.
From daily walks around the village, to cows strolling past you, boys on bikes, stops at the local Kade, tuk tuks off for a hire, aunties smiling at you and inviting you into their homes where they warmly offer you homemade lemonade from the homegrown local citrus in their garden- this is the heart of Sri Lanka; the beauty and essence of everyday life in the village.
Each item in this collection is one of its kind with a special touch of Sri Lankan artistry.
This dress, called the Birds Of Paradise dress, is a reimagined up-cycled denim white dress cut short in a diagonal with an added flare of ruffle Sri Lankan tie-dye fabric from our artisan Shihani.
Then we have the hand embroidered accents of actual birds of paradise on the side bust and back creating a lovely touch of color and charm. This hand embroidery is done by our artisan Shakira. You can read about both artisans on the artisans’ page.
The style is a combination of sexy, flirty and fun. I could imagine wearing this to a cocktail party or a summer brunch or even a night out dancing under the tropical trees.
The denim is soft and stretchy. In the photos both models are wearing the same dress, the first model is a size xsmall with 30” bust, 24” waist at 5’7". Second model is size small with 34" bust, 26” waist and at 5’6”.
